F for Fiama - Mariana Pineda

Synopsis

Mariana Pineda, directed by Fiama Hasse Pais Brandão from the text of the same name by Frederico Garcia Lorca, premiered in 1975 in the context of the Hoje Theatre Group, of which Fiama was a founder (with Gastão Cruz and Carlos Fernando). The staging and dramaturgy are one of the most visible and corporeal possibilities for studying Fiama's theatre practice (made possible, among other things, by the revolutionary end of the Portuguese dictatorship). We set ourselves the challenge of rebuilding this staging from the existing archive: the director's almost complete scenic version, Jorge Peixinho's musical score and Igrejas Caeiro's programme about the show.

F for Fiama is a process of theatrical archaeology and, at the same time, a proposal for a (posthumous but tangible) collaboration between UMCOLETIVO and Grupo de Teatro Hoje. It's the certainty that personal archives are the full possibility of studying 20th century Portuguese women. It is the rescue of the living memory of the show (of actors, spectators and critics) in order to rebuild it, in a dialogue between two artistic nuclei that propose tensions to the process and the scene, through the relationship with history, through the very idea of the image of what theatre is today and what it was 50 years ago, but above all through the visitation of what remains of the ephemeral.

A project by UMCOLETIVO and GMCL - Grupo de Música Contemporânea de Lisboa, which includes students from the Theatre course at the University of Évora.
