Penelope Capa

Penelope, based on the unpublished work of the same name by writer Alice Sampaio, is an artistic object that begins with a question: what if we sow hope? We are organising two agri-cultural encounters between artists and the public - one and the other, united by time and care. The first, which we call Penelope: Volume I  summons everyone's hands to sow. Then Ulysses speaks to us like rain: the sowing will blossom and travel to the theatre... As part of a series of shows designed for all children, Penelope can be a visual poem whose roots sprout love stories.

'Penelope', based on Volume II of Alice Sampaio's novel of the same name, is a disruptive artistic object that proposes two encounters between artists and the public. Here, Ulysses speaks to us like the rain. As part of a series of shows designed for all children, 'Penélope' is a visual poem whose roots appeal to interdisciplinary knowledge of agriculture and education, enabling the creation of an affective relationship between spectators and the land - with the ultimate aim of bringing them face to face with cross-cutting contemporary issues related to new forms of sustainable agriculture, whose hydroponic techniques make it possible to intervene in the most water-stressed soils.

Penelope III is a performance that begins with the memories that some users of CERCI (Cooperative for the Education and Rehabilitation of Disabled Children of Portalegre) collected during the Penelope project, the first and second stages of which were presented in April and June of this year. Through memory and love, we have reconstructed a performance space that was once only for contemplation: on stage we see seven actors who are not. The theatre that lives in their bodies is that of strangeness, side by side with all the learning that has been cemented over almost seven months of work, the last few days of which have been more intense. This performance, which we're still learning, talks about what it's like to be a spectator and the scars of being entirely in the place you're seeing from.
