onto prévio à flor

To forget Joana Leal's work would be as dangerous as running with a needle in your hand. Ponto Prévio à Flor is a woman's uncompromising invitation to run with her against oblivion - on a journey from the entrails to the skin, from the interior to the capital, from intimacy to community.
Joana Leal is an artisan, seamstress and collector of maps, lace, clocks and Elvas plum boxes. Her passage through life is haunted by being a woman, as much as by being born in the countryside. This casts a pall of oblivion over an oeuvre whose brilliance lies in its longevity and detail, but above all in the freedom based on the certainty of someone who knows things that few see. Joana achieves enough alchemy in her lines to overcome the setbacks initially mentioned: even so, the work accumulates the rancour of oblivion and translates the day-to-day life of someone who doesn't know who to pass the baton on to. PONTO PRÉVIO À FLOR is therefore a performative tribute, based on Joana Leal's textile art and handicrafts, which seeks to give centrality and joviality to a unique work whose risk of extinction is real.
