a salto

A Salto - Artistic Takeover of the City of Elvas is a festival in which we celebrate contemporary art, cultural diversity and the heritage of the city of Elvas. It's a place of dreams, love, growth, encounter and risk. In a world that is divided, fractured, in which we are sold loneliness, in which we still look at others with the suspicion of those who ignore equality, to be A Salto is to dive in and cross these boundaries, through a set of thirteen artistic projects that propose we be together. On 27, 28 and 29 August, Elvas is the stage for an artistic revolution: languages, hands, dance moves from Argentina, Évora, Cape Verde, people, gestures, tastes that speak to us of Israel, Viseu, France, desires, causes, convictions that move us from Vila Boim to Lisbon, passing through Porto and listening to the world in the night stars. If A Salto could be a story, this year would start like this: there were almost thirty artists who were always working. In their tiredness, they travelled inland to the land of lullabies. When you sleep, some object inhabits your memory. Perhaps an aquarium. Perhaps a cockerel that represents the invisible. Mao-Mao, it's called. And there's a Snorer, who is all of us, growing on a low heat while we shop greedily. This chap has four spheres. Are we going to enjoy it until the world is a time capsule?
